Malaysia's Online Shopping in growing

The MasterCard Worldwide Online Shopping Survey that conducted last year revealed the number of people who shopped online in Malaysia grows from 55 per cent in 2010 to 67 per cent in 2011. According to MasterCard Worldwide statement, Malaysian is more confident to buy product or service online, compared with last year. Only 36 per cent of the survey respondents were concerned about the security while 39 per cent in year 2010. It may due to the enhancement in payment security such as 3D Secure (Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode).

Mobile shopping is also slowly gaining traction in Malaysia with 25 per cent of the respondents made transactions through their mobile phone in the past three months. No doubt, mobile phone is rising rapidly as the device of choice for Asia shoppers in emerging markets.

Finally MOL offers online payment service named MOLPay

On 10th of May, 2012 Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyClear), a subsidiary wholly onwed by Bank Negara Malaysia appoints MOLPay Sdn Bhd (MOLPay) as its first non-back acquirer of its Financial Process Exchange (FPX) service for online merchants. With this appointment, the Malaysian online seller able to implement online payment easily and securely by offering their online buyer to use Internet Banking service (such as Maybank2u, CIMB Clicks, etc.) to purchase their products or services online.

MOL Global Group (MOL), one of the largest internet companies in South East Asia ventures into online payment business after acquired NBePay, the first online payment service in Malaysia last year. MOL also owns MOL Access Portal and the pioneer social network, Friendster.

According to Group CEO of MOL Global during the signining ceremony, MOLPay will penetrate into other 4 countries by end of 2013, to become the leading online payment service provider in South East Asia. Besides, MOLPay also announced that they are going to launch physical payment, a payment services allowed online buyer to buy online but pay cash at participating MOL points centres such as 7-11 convenience store, POPULAR book store and cyber cafes. MOLPay believes this first physical payment service in Malaysia able to contribute to the growth of E-Commerce in Malaysia. Also, its physical payment services covers Singapore market via 7-11 convenience store, Singapore Posts and AXS kiosks.

iPay88 did very well in the past few years compared with NBePay. But, will iPay88 be defeated due to the rise of MOLPay? I noticed some iPay88 existing merchants have started to switch to use MOLPay. No doubt, MOLPay overall is better than iPay88 based my own personal research and the name of iPay88 is to "chinese" style and may not suitable for global expansion.

PosLaju Eyeing E-Commerce market

Today Pos Malaysia launched the PosLaju Prepaid Box and Prepaid Envelope in Plaza Shah Alam, Selangor at 12.00pm. The new products are convenient and cost efficient way for customers to send their items (by Prepaid Box) and documents (by Prepaid Envelope) without the hassle of figuring out the volumetric calculation for the postage. These new products are to cater for the demand from online business entrepreneurs in terms of providing convenient and cost efficient shipping solutions. I am glad that Pos Malaysia taking the innitiative to help online sellers in logistic service, which always is one of the biggest challenges to someone is selling physical goods over the internet.
PosLaju Prepaid Box are available in three sizes while PosLaju Prepaid Envelope are in two sizes with the following details:

(a) PosLaju Prepaid Box
  • Box S (RM13.00) - Size: 80mm x 250mm x 340mm; Weight Limit: 2 kg
  • Box M (RM20.00) - Size: 150mm x 250mm x 340mm; Weight Limit: 5 kg
  • Box L (RM30.00) - Size: 200mm x 320mm x 380mm; Weight Limit: 10 kg
(b) PosLaju Prepaid Envelope
  • Envelope S (RM6.00) - Size: 200mm x 280mm; Weight Limit: 500 gm
  • Envelope L (RM9.00) - Size: 320mm x 380mm; Weight Limit: 1 kg

The Prepaid Envelope comes with plastic bubble padding for added protection, is different from the Pos Express Envelope. Believe the new product by Pos Malaysia can help E-commerce merchants or online sellers (who are selling physical items) to ship their item without worry about the item weight and at lower cost. According to Pos Malaysia staff, if you use Prepaid S (with  2kg limit), they still allow you to ship 2.2kg items as long as your item can be put inside the box. Does it sound cool? But, if any damage or loss of the items within the PosLaju Prepaid Box or Prepaid Envelope that exceeded the maximum weight limit, PosLaju will not be responsible for any refumd.

How to get this cool product?

You can purchase it at Pos Malaysia outlets, PosLaju outlets as well as sales aget (MBE and Ikobana)

Where can sellers post the Prepaid Box and Envelope?

No pickup service provided by this product. You need to post it in Pos Malaysia outlets, PosLaju outlets and selected sales agents.

What is the delivery standard?

These products will be treated as Next Day Delivery (NDD) service. The NDD service covers selected areas which includes major towns and cities. For areas not covered under NDD service, the delivery will take an additional one to three working days.

Definitely, this is a good news for E-Commerce industry in Malaysia and the online sellers can be benefited through PosLaju lower shipping fee charged. For more info about these two new products, please visit www.poslaju.com.my.

Malaysia Broadband Penetration Rate Increased to 62% last year

The broadband penetration rate in Malaysia was increased from 54 percent in 2010 to 62% lasy year which means 400 million households are subscribing broadband services. The local government forecasted that the penetration rate will reach 75% by 2015.

The broadband penetration rate is relatively low (below 50%) in the states such as Pahang, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak. The lowest cost to start selling online

Believe a lot of want to start their own online business to gain some extra or part time income. But, initial capital may become the first obstacle to the new e-entrepreneur. If you want to sell products online, definitely you need to source some products from the supplier for online selling and capital required here, unless the supplier willing to support you by offering information and special pricing without asking you to stock in first. I would say it hardly to happen provided the supplier is your relative or good friend.

Without capital, can I still start selling online and make some passive income? The answer is YES.

How?

Selling E-book is your choice. An electronic book or e-book is a book-length publication in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both and produced on published through and readable on computer s or other devices. You can write, publish and sell your own e-book through online. The investment is your time only.

What to write?

Try to write something that you think people will read - this is called market demand, such as "how to stop smoking", "how to lose weigh" and please don't write about your lifestyle! Who want to know more about you? Unless you are politicians, sportmen or celebrities. The languages of the e-book doesn't matter and of course English version of e-book will have bigger market compared with other languages.
